If you are going to mail your resume or carry it to the interview;

* Print it out on A4 paper (in Japan and Europe) or 8x11 inch paper (in the U.S.) using a sturdy (2.8 lb. bond) paper with an ultrawhite or bright-white finish.

* Use a laser printer or other printer that gives high-quality results. The printout should look typeset with no faded or broken letters.

* Do not use unusual colored or textured paper.

* Do not use any size other than A4 in Japan. Use 1-inch (2.5-cm) margins on all sides to frame your resume and provide adequate (eye-pleasing) white space.

* Clearly separate sections with double or triple spacing. Use single spacing for body content.

* Have no more than six lines of writing in any one "writing block" or paragraph (summary, skill section, accomplishment statement, job description, etc.). If any more than this is necessary, start a new section or a new paragraph.

* Choose an easy-to-read, professional-looking font such as Times New Roman.

* Use an 11 point or 12 point font so that it is large enough to read, but not too large.

* Highlight your name and headings in bold or all capital letters for emphasis.

* Put your name at the top of Page 2 in a two-page resume.

* Use consistent design and organizational schemes throughout your resume.

* Spell out numbers under and including ten; use numerical form for numbers over and including 11 (as a general rule).

* Do not use abbreviations unless they are unquestioningly obvious.

* Avoid using creative bullets or symbols (dots, squares, or diamonds are fine.)

* Buy matching envelopes.

* Type the return and mailing addresses on the envelopes.
